Lost in a swimming pool

How to find something you left at a swimming pool

Two separate problems: things left in a locker or on a bench, and things dropped in water. Only one of them is findable by radio.

What to do, in order

  1. Go back the same day, Leisure centre lost property is cleared frequently and rarely stored long.
  2. Check the locker you used and the two either side, Mis-remembering a locker number is more common than losing the contents.
  3. Scan the changing room and the poolside, Watches and bands come off for a swim and stay on a bench.
  4. Accept that submerged is gone, Water blocks 2.4 GHz almost entirely. Nothing in the pool will register on a scan regardless of whether it survived.

Where it usually turns up

  • The bench in front of the lockers: Where watches and rings get put down.
  • The shower area shelf: Removed and left.
  • The bottom of the pool: Which is a visual search, not a radio one.

Worth knowing

  • Watches and rings come off for swimming more than for any other activity. Saving them under My Devices means the pool gets pinned automatically.

Lost somewhere else?

The first hour looks different depending on where it happened.
