Start with what needs no account
- Call the phone and stand in silence in each room. Vibration on a hard surface carries.
- Ask Siri or the assistant out loud, it responds even on silent if voice activation is enabled.
- If the phone has clap detection armed, clap twice.
- Run a Bluetooth scan from your own phone. If theirs is paired to a watch or headphones, it is broadcasting and will appear.
Then the account route
Find My on iPhone, or Find Hub on Android, needs the account credentials. If they are available, that is the better tool and you should use it. If they are not, do not spend an hour on password recovery before searching the sofa.
Set it up properly afterwards
- Write the account details down somewhere physical and safe. This is the single most common failure point in family tech support.
- Turn on Find My with Send Last Location.
- Arm clap detection with the automatic option so the phone is answerable by sound.
