The checkout sweep
- Both sides of the bed, at floor level. Chargers stay plugged in behind the nightstand.
- Under the pillows and inside the bedding.
- The bathroom, the shelf, the back of the door hook, the shower.
- The wardrobe, including the safe, which is the single most-forgotten container in any hotel room.
- Every socket. Chargers left in the wall are the most commonly abandoned item in hospitality.
- The desk drawer.
If something small is already missing
Run a Bluetooth scan from the middle of the room. Earbuds, watches and tags will appear if they are still in the room and still charged, and the signal will rise as you approach whichever piece of furniture has swallowed them.
In a hotel you will pick up devices from adjacent rooms through the wall. Compare readings as you move: a signal that peaks against a wall and drops as you step away from it is on the other side of that wall.
